A wide variety of restoration and repair services are offered to refurbish and re-vitalise valuable and treasured family pieces. Work is carried out on items destined for the sale rooms too.

Cabinet Making - Foxwood’s work includes both antique and contemporary pieces with all period styles expected through the door.
- Repairs cover replacement of broken or missing timbers caused through wear and tear, woodworm, heat or water damage and not forgetting the occasional unwanted attentions of the family pet!
- Work typically includes repair to veneers, loosened or broken joints and turned elements.
- Tooled leather skivers can be replaced on desks, bureaux, tables, etc.
- Sometimes one is asked to adapt an existing piece, for example turning a Regimental Drum into a table or re-working a 4 drawer filing cabinet to make two matching ones.
- Pieces can be replicated, too, and new items of furniture designed and produced to your own requirements.
French Polishing - Many pieces come to the workshop damaged by heat or water marks or through another staining mishap. Others have woodwork which have been bleached by the sun or the polished surfaces damaged by it.
- Projects may require full stripping, re-colouring and re-polishing; others only a light abrading prior to re-finishing.
- It is felt most important that, particularly on older, more valuable pieces, the patina is left as undisturbed as possible since
- its overworking can significantly reduce its sale value.
- Other forms of wood finishing are offered, too, depending on the style of the piece or for what particular purpose it is being used. These can include lacquers, varnishes and hard-wax oil finishes.
Upholstery – Foxwood concentrates on the provision of traditional upholstery techniques but, where contemporary pieces are involved, then the appropriate materials are used.
- Anything from fitting new fabrics and finishes to a set of dining chairs or the full re-springing and re-covering of a favourite wingback chair or sofa can be achieved. Work includes necessary piping, cushion covers, templating and sourcing of feather seat pads to required size and contour.
- Any necessary repairs to damaged frames, spring-units, etc, would be advised prior to commencing upholstery work.
- The service of making up loose covers is not offered.
Bespoke Furniture – It is always a pleasure to be able to design and construct pieces for customers and Foxwood enjoys the challenge of any new commissions.
These provide an opportunity to let the imagination go a bit on ideas and also to use materials and techniques different to those employed on some day-to-day projects.
